In today's fast-paced and image-driven world, many of us find ourselves grappling with the painful belief of not feeling good enough. The constant comparison to others, societal pressures, and unrealistic standards can chip away at our self-esteem and leave us questioning our worth. In this article, we will explore the roots of not feeling good enough, the impact it has on us, and practical strategies to reclaim our self-confidence and embrace our inherent worth.

My own story of Not Feeling Good Enough

The demands of a competitive career, maintaining a lifestyle that I tried hard to keep up, and meeting societal expectations left me feeling overwhelmed and inadequate. I became my harshest critic, never giving myself credit for my achievements and always focusing on my perceived failures.


No matter how much I achieved, a nagging voice always told me I could have done better. I wore a mask of perfection to the world, but inside, I felt like an imposter, afraid of being discovered as not worthy of success and happiness..


When I hit 40 I began to burn out and I realized the true impact of not feeling good enough. Everything began to unravel and I knew I had to confront my core belief and reclaim my self-worth.


I sought support from a therapist, who encouraged me to examine the roots of my belief. Through self-reflection, I traced its origin to my upbringing, where over-giving, overworking, people pleasing, to caring for others were more important than caring for myself, what other people thought about me equated to my feelings of worthiness. I began challenging my negative thoughts, asking myself if my expectations were realistic and sustainable.


Slowly and gently, I began to release the illusion of perfection. I allowed myself to be authentic, sharing my struggles and celebrating my strengths.


I discovered that my imperfections were not a reflection of failure but an invitation to grow and learn. Through this shift in perspective, I started to see myself through a lens of self-love and appreciation.


As I journeyed towards healing, I learned the art of self-compassion. I forgave myself for past mistakes and embraced my vulnerabilities as part of being human. I started acknowledging my efforts and progress, even when I didn't achieve perfection. Each step towards self-acceptance was a triumph that strengthened my resilience.
