Community Interview #14: Nadia

Meet Nadia. Just as promised, the MVP of our lovely community. Our most dedicated and committed member since day one. Nadia holds the record of most attended classes with her impressive record of over 700 classes since the start of the MLPC. She was one of the very first to join Alex in her adventure to create this community when the world lost connection due to Covid-19 pandemic back on March 19th, 2020.

The life of the party in our, no longer little, WhatsApp group. Nadia and Alex met during the time Alex was teaching yoga part time at an old studio here in Abu Dhabi. Fun fact, Nadia did her very first yoga class with Alex. Inspired by Alex’s entrepreneurship, Nadia recently founded her amazing bakery, Bimi. I had the opportunity to try some of her bakings during the last live cruise event and they’re the guilt free treats that I’ve always dreamed of.

Nadia, a true MLPC All-Stars, participated in 8 straight 30 day challenges. She enjoys classes like Mindful Barre, Power Vinyasa, HIIT Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga and Meditation. Bringing back an old interview when I first started the community blog, meet the girl behind the Zoom box name...

What inspired you to start practicing yoga?

Nadia: The calmness on people’s faces despite being in awkward, uncomfortable and difficult (yet cool) postures. I strived for that calmness and peace alongside the strength.

Have you ever had any experience with yoga before joining the MLPC?

Nadia: I started practicing yoga about a year ago [2019], I instantly got hooked and I kept exploring different styles of yoga from Ashtanga to Anti-Gravity to Yin etc. Yet, there are many more to explore. I’m still considered a newbie yogi.

What’s your connection to the MLP?

Nadia: My first yoga class ever was with Alex McRobs at The Room and it was the best decision I’ve ever made, attending her classes (Yoga, Barre and spinning) was life changing. Alex to me is my teacher, my inspiration and a friend.

How did you end up being so committed to yoga you made it to more classes than anyone else?

Nadia: Committing to yoga is like committing to a better lifestyle, in my opinion. Each class helped me grow stronger mentally and physically. Classes with The MLPC taught me much more than just the yoga postures. With every teacher, I learn more and more about each style of yoga in-depth, which intrigues me.

Did you face any challenges during the month of June?

Nadia: I had a minor injury which kind of threw me off; but I kept on going, modifying some postures. Eventually, I got returned to the mat with a better sense of what my body can handle and how to respect that.

What are the biggest benefits you’ve reaped from your yoga practice?

Nadia: I am mentally and physically stronger. Yoga is my therapy session, my workout, my time to find inner peace and grounding. I never would’ve thought I’d ever get to be this person I am today and I owe it all to yoga.

What’s your favorite posture?

Nadia: Definitely would be a headstand! The change of perspective while balancing and remaining clam is soothing.

What’s your most difficult posture?

Nadia: I’d probably say any posture where you don’t really do anything and just have to sit still. Now that’s challenging and kind of difficult for me. Stillness is much harder than anything to me but I am working on it as much as I can.

Any words of wisdom to those just starting out?

Nadia: Yoga is literally for everyone, step on your mat with an open mind and don’t be afraid to fall. Growth comes with time.

Will we be seeing you in as many classes during the month of July?

Nadia: Most definitely. This community has been nothing but great. Motivating each other and just chatting with everyone from all over the globe before or after class is so heartwarming, and it's wonderful to have this connection with people I've never met in person, but we share the same love for our practice with. Besides that, I enjoy every class The MLPC has to offer.
